Excuses.

30 06 2009

To be perfectly honest I hate people who make excues for themself.

Today during The BIGGEST LOSER, this pair made excuses to notfinish the challange when they lost. But the thing is even the two other pairs did not win but they still finished their challange. Finish what you started. No matter ho hard, difficult or time consuming it is.

Also, I was helping out some friends with their school play today. Many made excuses that they were nervous and couldnt do as instructed. I pulled them apart and worked one on one. The shy one that had a chunk of lines could do it more easily than he previously did and the other could beat box ( which is so cool) and he did not want to do it cause it was ‘embarrasing’. He ended up doing as suggested after he beat boxed for 36 seconds straight. He kept saying he could not. But he did! sigh….

excuses. a trick of the mind to tell you that you cant.

Alot of nosie was made about the day of silence

19 04 2009

On the 17th of April, students across 100 collages and universities in the United States participated in the day of Silence which was officially sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network. They wore shirts saything that being gay was ok with them and kept silence for a period of time to support those who were silenced due to their sexutality.

I feel that this is a good example of what should be happening. Not the keepiong silent bit ( although we do have so much noise in the world) but the acceptance of homosextuality. A lot of religious people like to say that homosextuality is against God. That God hates the GAYS.

Sigh. Just throw the bible back at them. God created us in his image. He made us all special. He loves all the children of the world ( which also includes the adults).

If you want throw science at them. Dolphins do commit homosextual acts. After a while they will be trapped in a box they can’t get out of. However, the best thing it to leave people alone. Let them believe what ever they want to. Even if their insults hurt.

My country of the year

16 04 2009

So, tomorrow is international day. We are highly encouraged to dress up according to the different coutries of the world. I intend to be french tomorrow. Yup and I am watching Cats after school tomorrow. I am spending to learn french. I have the Italian book but the website gives free recordings for french. Collins Pharsebook and Dictionary website. Have fun. I will take pictures and post them up as soon as possible.

I love international friendship day. I love learning about the different cultures and knowing about other people. I love the diversity of this world. It is amazing how much we think we know and how much we actually do. I know very little about the french and although I might be dressing in trendy blacks and the hat they love to wear ( no idea what it is called). French

I am going to study the french language now. I want to impress people tomorrow with my SKILLS. Lol. But honestly, international friendship day isn’t only a time when we get to dress up. It is also a learning experience. As soon as possible I will put up information on the French culture here. They are my country of the year!!!

The wars we fight

17 03 2009

Freedom Writers and the diary of Anne Frank show such inspiration, bravery and courage and everyone of us look at them and go ‘Wow. They went through a lot. They were fighting a war’. Let me ask everyone this. Aren’t we fighting a war? Aren’t we all fighting an undeclaired war? We might not be using violence. We might not be physical in our wars. We are all at war.

Hear me out.

How many of us are going through family problems? How many of us are facing problems at school? At work? Bullies? Gangs?

How many of us are fighting a war with ourselves?

How many of us feel like we have the whole world on our shoulders and at any time, the moment we show weakness, the world would come crashing down?

If you don’t face that, you are either one lucky human being or not human at all. The problem with conflict and war is that it is all around us. We sometimes don’t see it or refuse to see it or we just become the ignorant creatures we can be and ignore it all together. Everyday, we all fight wars. I fight a war everyday. I fight a war with no one else but myself and I know that some annoying person who reads my blog will irritate me tonight or tomorrow. But I really don’t care.

My friend is in one of the most complicated wars I have ever seen. And I don’t even know how to help. She is going through so much and all I do is stand there fighting my own war. She fights a war to be with her family, to protect herself from her family. She fights this war to want to know what being a ‘family’ is all about. It is almost a year since she changed coustody and now I don’t know if I did the right thing insisting she do it. And out of everything else I have to handle, I beat myself up everyday because she is my best friend.

I beat myself everyday and that is one reason for my war. Now, I am fighting for more. I am fighting for respect. Directing my cast and getting respect from them isn’t my problem. Anyone want to know the real reason why I took up this? I wanted the challenge. I wanted the challenge to prove to the adults of my parish that our youths are capable. They say our youths are not active. We aren’t involved. We are respecting our faith. Look. Look at what our youths are putting up. Look. Listen. Listen to their voices. Listen. Listen to the way they praise. Listen to the way they sing. Listen to their words.

Some wars are shared. The respect I want from the adults is what all teenagers want. Don’t believe me? Look in your parish. In your place of worship. In your community. In your neighbourhood. In your city. In your state. LOOK in your COUNTRY. Look in OTHER  countries. Look world wide. Adults believe that anyone who is not working is incapable and hence shouldn’t be given a chance to earn and gain respect. Step in our shoes for a second, will you? You don’t get it. We constantly are told indirectly that we need to prove ourselves. We feel that way. We need to be the best we can be, for our friends, for our families and for the benifit of the whole entire world. We have so much to prove.

People say do your best. It is ok if you fail. Do your best. Be your best for it is all we need. And you do your best and you do fail and you see it in their eyes. The disappointment. The sadness. Everything is gone. And those are the people who believe in you. For those who don’t well, they expect you fail. So you have to make those who believe in you proud and prove those who don’t wrong.

See the war we are fighting….I am fighting.

Freedom Writers.

That is what we are. We should all be given that title.

Trashing

15 03 2009

So ever family party I have, me and my wonderful darling cousins will escape the party. And once we are out of eyes and ears way, we will trash. NO WE DO NOT LITTER.

We will talk, gossip and stuff that other girls do.

Sometimes we bring up problems that we have and we just throw it out, suggesting ways of improvement or just throwing out anger and what we just really can’t stand and after all that trashing, we would be okay with each other. I have this with all of my cousins. Trash and normality. It is so simple and it is healthy. It is not the best method for everyone but if it works, use it.

You build a stronger relationship.

Control

10 03 2009

Do you really believe in control?

What is control in the first place?

Sometimes I wonder why I use dictionary.com
Well, in any situation, you have a certain about of control. However, the only thing you can control is yourself. Your feelings, your thoughts and your actions. You can’t control the actions of others.
If you could….well we can only imagine.
Well, it is all that we can only do. Once we let out thoughts come under our control, we can further understand ourselves and control our efforts to making a situation work out. We can only wait for a reaction for the other party.
Don’t control the world, control yourself.

International Women’s day

10 03 2009

Last Sunday, 8 of March, was International Women’s Day and since it was a special day, I wanted to do a special post on a special lady. Sadly, I wasn’t very much inspired. However, on International Women’s Day, instead of embracing the joys of being a woman, my cousin, a friend and myself exposed our flaws, faults and regrets that we, as women, have made.

Many of what that conversation is secret and will remain secret. However, the fact that we didn’t celebrate our womanhood to me came as a shock. We did one thing no woman has the pleasure of doing.

Accepting her flaws. Her faults. The things in her life she wishes she could change. Ladies, come on. We all have to admit it someday. Why not sooner? We aren’t perfect. We are fully human.

On international woman’s day, while many spent their day enjoying being a woman, I embraced that I am not perfect. That I have flaws. The sooner I told myself that, the better I felt. So ladies, what if you have a bad hair day? Or if everyone you are working with thinks you have this major crush on your colleague? You are merely a human being.

In the past women weren’t given high expectations. Now, we try to reach expectations which are beyond us. You are human. Not an alien. Not a superhuman. A NORMAL human being, stop living up to the expectations of others and always do the right thing.

Now, if you can excuse me. I need to go practise what I preach.

Our ever-changing future

10 02 2009

So today, my vice principal, Ms Teo gave the upper secondary students a talk about our future and charecter development in SAC. I be perfectly honest, I love Ms Teo. She, to me, is such an inspirational speaker. She makes me want to stand up and do something about myself. Unlike Ms Martens, she really inspires me ( No offence Ms Martens. It is not that you’re not inspirational. It is just that your straight to the point and that kind of scares me….).  I recall her tell us everything to survive in our ever changing world. Now you see it is scary as hell but after that 55 minutes of Ms Teo preparing us for the real world, I felt inspirated, so inspirated that I wouldn’t mind being the one freezing hell over.

She asked us to remember 4 important points. She calls them the 4 Ls. NO! They do NOT stand for lame, loser, latargic or liar. They stand for Learn, Live, Lead and Leap.

Learn:- No matter what age you are, YOU LEARN EVERY DAY! Even if you are 100 you are still learning! Hey, younger generation, things HAVE changed since 100 years ago!  Your grandparents are still learning every single day.

Live:- “When you practice what you preach.” The most brilliant lyrics by The Black Eye Peas.  After you learn, you have to react. Lets say I tell you global warming is going to destroy all life on earth. You aren’t going to sit there and do nothing but HELP THE PROCESS OF GLOBAL WARMING! You are going to do something! Unless, of course you have something against all man kind!

Lead:- This does not nesscessarily apply to people holding leadership positions. This goes out to every one. When you stand up for what you believe, you are leading. You believe in letting everyone have a say in a conversation. If someone is excluded, you speak up and stand up for what you believe in. That person might actually have something good to say! Or if you see someone littering, tell them “Hey, the EMPTY BIN is right next to you!”

Leap:- This requires some reflection. After you live, you have to reflect. Did was what I did suitable behavior? When you reflected that is when you take a leap towards the kind of person you want to be.

Tada! The 4 Ls. Thank you Ms Teo for being so inspirational.

Oh by the way. below is the video she showed us during the talk. Take a look and leave your comments.
