Why having a niche makes you boring?

23 01 2011

So, I have been reading many blogs and ‘blog experts’ about how to have a successful blog and ALL suggest that I should have a niche. And all I can say is why?

Why should ANYONE have a niche for their blog? To collect more readers? I have plenty of readers thank you every much.

You see, my arguement is that, we are people yes, and therefore we have more than one interest. So, we read more than one blog. Or we are interested in writing about more than one particular interest, yes?

So why should I limit my blog to one small little topic under the sun that can be linked to alot of other little topics when I can cover everything at one go?

I talk about the environment, people, news, politics and is this not everything you all are interested in? Why read about one particular thing? Politic blogs are just so boring to read aren’t they? And environmental blogs are just so green. NO ONE IS LIKE THAT. Everyone is mixed up, jumbled. Why should the internet be so organised anyways?

Im leaving my blog like this. My niche is life. Hopefully everyone learns something from it.

The scary adult world awaits….

26 01 2010

Hey….fast and enhanced adult world.

I am Cheyenne. I am 16 and I am SCARED AS HELL.

There are many reasons to why I am scared as hell. Firstly, my school posting results are out in about 10.25 hours from now. That would be 8am on the 27th of January Singapore local time that the Ministry of Education releases the posting results. I DON’T KNOW IF I CAN GET INTO THE SCHOOL(S) OF MY CHOICE!!!!!!!!!!! Secondly, I have another fear concerning the school(s) of my choice. You see, I am eligible to enter a Junior College( JC) where it is compulsory for me to take Malay as a subject. If you haven’t been following my blog, or if I have yet to mention it then I will mention it now. I SUCK AT MY MOTHER TONGUE! Finally my mum told me I might not be able to study in an overseas university because we might not afford it.

NOW I AM SCARED AS HELL. I want to cry so much. Not that I hate Singapore Universities. I just really want to get out of this country. Plus there are universities that offer me better Drama or Marine Biology courses. I am currently looking at scholarships. I AM 16 AND I AM LOOKING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!!!!!

There are other options. I am looking for a part time job. I am scared to death as it is and I don’t mind tutoring little kids to help fund my college courses. I don’t want to commit to a job just yet. I don’t know what my timetable is like until I enter a school (which I hope is soon).

I feel like a kid living in an adult world. My parents tell me don’t grow up too fast but the fact of the matter is that I have to. I can’t survive in this world without ‘ growing up fast’ . The harsh reality is hitting me hard, and I am not even facing the worst of it yet. I should have taken up a job.

I think when I am all settled, I’ll apply to a tuition center.

I am a kid living in an adult world. I wanted to grow up fast. I wanted to be free and I wanted to be extremely adult. Now I wish time would stop. Just for me. I don’t want to grow up any more.

I am scared for what the world will bring to me.

Sometimes I wish I didn’t turn 16…..

Lots of luck,

Cheyenne

My future, my choice

3 01 2010

Today I went out with my cousins and my friend, Dhivya but only one cousin ( plus Dhivya) had dinner with me at Singapore flyer.  We had a discussion about my future. Upon getting my O level results, I will have to make a choice. A junior Collage(JC)? A polytechnic? Singapore School of the Arts(SOTA)? Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts(NAFA)? Private Arts school?

When I am looking at JCs, she asked me why waste my time? Polytechnic is a wonderful route. And if you are interested in drama, enter SOTA.( note: I am tired!!! I don’t remember all the words to that conversation.what she really said isn’t the above…its just paraphrased).

I just got ticked off. She is in Normal Academic Stream which does 5 years of Secondary School so she heads back tomorrow while I did 4 years in the Express stream ( Singaporean NA readers this is not discrimination! I am just explaining to others who do not fully get our education system).

I don’t know. I don’t know what I want to really do. I mean I am at a crossroads and I don’t want to regret anything and I have been taking my time with this decision.

I just got an application for a scholarship. It is in engineering but I am not fully interested in that.

I don’t know. I think everyone should stop worrying about everyone else’s futures and worry about their own.

I forgive my cousin if anyone like wants to know. I can’t stay mad at her for long.:)

Muslim shot when attempted to assasinate cartoonist

2 01 2010

http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2010/01/muslim-shot-outside-of-danish-cartoonist-kurt-westergaards-home.html

Just read the above link. Then read my post.

Sigh.

The world is just pissing me off. AND I DON’T BLAME THE MUSLIM DUDE.

What history we do not learn we will repeat.

This happened in ….world war 2 if  I am not wrong. Where pictures of the Jews were drawn to make fun of them and mock them.

SAME THING.  If you draw a bomb coming out of Muhammad’s head, someone will get pissed off and want to kill you. SO no I don’t totally blame the 3 Muslim guys that wanted to kill him. He aroused the feelings of them to piss them off so much that they would want to kill him.

Agreed, they properly should not have tried to kill him but if you look at it. If you are a Muslim guy and you try to walk up to this Cartoonist house to talk to him, you will already look suspicious and he might stop the drawings.  We also have to remember that these people are extremist and not all Muslims are like this although the drawings are rather …well I have no idea how to describe the drawings. I just know this Kurt dude put himself on the list of people the extremist Muslims want to kill.

I think if I show my best friend those cartoons she would want to give Kurt a good talking to. And trust me my best friend is not an extremist but she’ll woop your ass if you insult her religion.

We are just Ordinary People

1 01 2010

Before I begin, let me just ask you all something. Did 2009 seem to past by fast? Through out 2009 I felt the earth spinning faster. Everything just seemed to go really fast and there was no time to stop.

A couple of days ago I bought the soundtrack of FAME with my Christmas money. I saved the soundtrack on my laptop and into my Ipod nano. There is one song that I can’t help but constantly listen to. Ordinary people by Asher Book.

We’re just ordinary people
We don’t know which way to go
’cause we’re ordinary people
Maybe we should take it slow (Take it slow oh oh ohh)
This time we’ll take it slow (Take it slow oh oh ohh)
This time we’ll take it slow

Above is the lyrics from the chorus. It is actually a love song. But the chorus is amasing. We are Ordinary people. We need to take it slow. Think about 2009 for a little bit please. Did it not go by fast for you? Did you rush through anything?WHY? We are people. Not robots. There is nothing to rush. We humans rush like crazy to save time and with all the saved up time we have, we just waste it on TV or something really lame. We need to slow down.

To all the working folk, calm down. Settle deals slowly this year. A rushed brain lowers productivity. Do things slowly and well and be done with it. Not do it fast and then it ends up to be crappy.

To students, including those in Polys, Universities, Pre-U or other standards, in exams take your time. Don’t rush. You miss stuff out when you rush through everything then you don’t do well. What is the point?

To everyone, let 2010 be meaningful. Let it have a slow pace so that you get the job done and can smell the wonderful roses at the same time. We have to enjoy 2010 and yet we do not understand why.

I dare each and every person here to slow down for 2010. Take time to breathe. You have to let your brain think for a little while and slow down. You are an Ordinary person. NOT A SUPER COMPUTER

We are Ordinary People. To my fellow Ordinary People, ‘this time we will take it slow’

With my regards

Cheyenne Phillips

The golden compass…is it really that golden.

2 05 2009

My sister is letting me muse her laptop cause my laptop charger is not working:(.

You know what. I hate the golden compass. No offence to anyone and I know that it was showed a few years ago and this is a late report but I really dislike the Golden Compass.

Everyone says the Golden Compass is against Christianity but that is not the reason why I dislike it so much. Looking at it with a drama/theater back ground ( even though it is not a stage show), I just can’t see thee big hit factor about this big hit wonder.

The begining and the end I will admit are my favorite parts of the show. I am intriguted by the demons and this magical world that Dust connects us to. I love the end when they have the big shown and help the kids escape and she flies of in this air machine to find her father. What I seriously can’t stand is everything in the middle! The transitioning is completely off. OK lets go step by step.

She goes stay with her so called mum. Then she realises her mum is the head of the goblers. Then she runs away and the people she used to live  take her to the middle of the ocean as a part of a bigger thing all together. They find her friend without his demon. The polar bear fights for his crown. Yeah then its the end.

Then they keep going on about this propercy. WHAT IS IT? WE THE AUDIENCE DO NOT KNOW!!!

Why is her mum the head pf the goblers?

Why is her mum going to kill her dad?

How come nicole kidmans demon is a monkey!

all these questions the movie has yet to answer.

What is more?  There hasnt been plans for a second movie….

Stuff you didn’t know about the holidays

My English Assignment.

12 03 2009

I did pretty well, infact, I am one of the top few. So I figured, I put up my WONDERFUL work for everyone to see. I think that it is also pretty relevant to our times.

“The Internet has made the world much smaller.” Do you agree?

My answer:

From New York to Russia, China to Peru and Singapore to Canada, everyone around the globe would have heard of the Internet. People know what Paris looks like, without catching a plane to France. They can even make new friends without ever meeting the real deal. I could even tell you what is happening at Google headquarters when no local newspaper or news television programmes have any information on the current situation. Indeed, the earth is rather large but the world is a lot smaller than we think.

The Internet gives on many opportunities to interact with people on the other side of the world. Online chatrooms, websites like Friendster and Facebook and even blogs allow one to interact with others. Chatrooms, which include the various Instant Message programmes like Yahoo.com, allow immediate interaction between two or more people from different parts of the globe. These chatrooms allow one to feel part of an actual conversation, with others and learn more about the different values, cultures and countries. Interaction websites allow further communication and interaction. Facebook allows members to exchange virtual gifts, take quizzes and leave comments. Blogs also allow one to further understand the blogger and read about experiences in that person’s life.

The Internet also allows one to be globally aware. One is able to research more about a particular event currently happening in the world, or read more about the culture’s and coustumes of different countries. One can even read more about current affairs from the Internet than what is provided on local news.

Internet access is available almost anywhere around the world, as long as one has an Internet server. The fact that almost anyone can access it means that different people can put up pictures, videos and even articles about places they have visited, Governments and airlines even put up information of new policies or even flight information on their respective websites. Not only does one not have to travel the world to see it, one can also plan their next vacation. They can even pay their credit card and phone bills without leaving the house. The Internet also makes it convient for people to work form home. They would just need to submit their work using the e-mail service.

While on the Internet, one may not be about to fully experience the place online. However, the Internet still provides one the gist of a country, place or experience and if one wishes to go there, one may choose to. Some, though, may not be financially blessed as others and may not get the opportunity to travel. Websites of countries and places give them a good idea of how the experience may be like.

The Internet has, indeed, mad the world smaller. We just have to log on and we can read about the lives of people who live half way across the world. We feel close to others when we interact with or read about them. That is what the Internet provides us, the closeness to those we interact with and yet live miles away. It is the closeness we share with others that makes the world much smaller.

I got 21/30. But then again….that was the highest if I’m not wrong.

International Women’s day

10 03 2009

Last Sunday, 8 of March, was International Women’s Day and since it was a special day, I wanted to do a special post on a special lady. Sadly, I wasn’t very much inspired. However, on International Women’s Day, instead of embracing the joys of being a woman, my cousin, a friend and myself exposed our flaws, faults and regrets that we, as women, have made.

Many of what that conversation is secret and will remain secret. However, the fact that we didn’t celebrate our womanhood to me came as a shock. We did one thing no woman has the pleasure of doing.

Accepting her flaws. Her faults. The things in her life she wishes she could change. Ladies, come on. We all have to admit it someday. Why not sooner? We aren’t perfect. We are fully human.

On international woman’s day, while many spent their day enjoying being a woman, I embraced that I am not perfect. That I have flaws. The sooner I told myself that, the better I felt. So ladies, what if you have a bad hair day? Or if everyone you are working with thinks you have this major crush on your colleague? You are merely a human being.

In the past women weren’t given high expectations. Now, we try to reach expectations which are beyond us. You are human. Not an alien. Not a superhuman. A NORMAL human being, stop living up to the expectations of others and always do the right thing.

Now, if you can excuse me. I need to go practise what I preach.

Self help??? Seriously???

5 03 2009

You know, there are so many books and videos and who knows what else out there which  tell people how to do stuff. Like the Idiots guide or other self help books. I say self help books because they tell you how you can be a better person or how to boost yourself confidence.

I stubbled onto this channel on youtube Howcast. It is pretty god actually. It is organised and it tells you how to do technical stuff ( I would listen to all the technical stuff if I were you).  But then I saw this video and I subscribed. Not because I need it, just because it got really funny.

How to flirt?
How to escape a bad party conversation?
How to make a move while watching a movie?

Excuse me? We are the ones who have all the knowledge of the world. WHY ARE OTHER PEOPLE TEACHING US HOW TO PICK UP A DATE?

Question Mark

Sigh.

You know, we have all the knowledge in the world. We just lack the confidence to show it.

And yes, you can quote me.
