Dear World,
I love how my generation is exposed to so many different types of music and sound. We are so much more fortunate than the generations before us, I believe in the quality of music we listen to.
Now, some may be rolling their eyes and questioning me- “How can you say that when all YOUR music is based on drugs, alcohol and sex?” I’m sorry to those who believe that but if you don’t mind me pointing out, when you were between 15-26(ish), all songs you loved involved some aspect of sex, or drugs or alcohol. So lay off my music and I’ll lay of yours.
Anyways, while the music industry may seem to be dominated by singers ‘bragging’ about their active social lives, the industry is also changing, not as slowly as we expect it, and now is favoring the show choir styled songs. Glee helped with that and now it is no longer the beat, its about the soul too. It is the lyrics, and the message and the top songs of 2011 show that.
More people call themselves “gleeks”. So many competitions now involve show choirs or acapella groups and they are growing more popular. People are becoming more interested in talent and here is where the revival of music (to me) is occurring. Music is making a come-back or at least, it is making the come-back it needed to save the quality it was meant to have.
With the ‘oldies’, the ‘hip hop’, the ‘soul’ and now added to the list is ‘show choir songs’ my generation is provided with a rich and diverse music culture and I hope they fully appreciate it.
