A change of heart.

30 07 2008

This post is in response to something my principle said. It is also a method of teaching which I find very useful and would recommend to those who don’t know or have a preferred style of teaching.

I have a particular lesson every Monday and Wednesday and the teacher scares me at times. She had such a presence the moment she stepped into our classroom at the beginning of the year; it was able to shush a Zoo. If someone dropped a pin in our classroom, you would be able to here it. However, I do enjoy her lessons . . . that is, of course, if she is in a good mood, which she is pretty much most of the time. She is stern but I know deep down she cares deeply for her students. If you sit in her class, you will feel that at first she can be harsh, making you do templates after every chapter. Now, however, I find the templates very useful although they are very theedious to do. The templates we do are like shortcuts to answering exam questions ( we have to remember the templates as we can’t bring them into examination halls. That would be considered cheating.) Sometimes on days when she isn’t feeling at her best, well, it’s  like being in a land mine. You never know when you are going to get a massive explosion. She doesn’t shout or anything but when she does get upset, it has a big impact.  You can feel the tension in the room. But her bad days don’t come that often. When she is in a good mood, she can tell some really good jokes to help us understand concepts better.

Over all, my impression of her has changed since the beginning of the year from an evil federal lord to a caring person

Solar eclipse this thursday/friday

30 07 2008

I have never really seen a solar eclipse. I would like to though. This upcoming solar eclipse will not appear in Singapore :( so I suggest to all who will be able to see it, don’t miss it. You get to watch an amazing sight. Take it in and really experience it to the fullest. Be grateful you can because there  are many people who don’t get to see it. Ever.

What is said stays…

29 07 2008

Secrets. Everyone has them. I love the pharse ‘What is said in this room, stays in this room’. It is a line that swears everyone in the room or discussion to secrecy. That means no one outside of the room knows whatever is said.

I feel when you are sworn to secrecy, you might as well kept to that promise. Don’t open your big mouth. There are many secrets which the people trust you with. Respect your friends and kept those secrets.I know that some of the best arguments among friends usually happen because someone couldn’t keep a secret. Sad isn’t it?

Who do I side?

29 07 2008

Tonight Singapore’s selection soccer team played against Brazil’s Olympic team. I’m sorry. I have to say this. Some one decided to play a really sick joke. Singapore vs. Brazil. My homeland against my favorite team in the whole world. Who do I side? My home land. Or my favorite team ever? Erm.

By now the match would have been over. I don’t know the score. I hope it is a tie.

I guess you never thought I was soccer fan. Well, I am. Now, do I go for my national team or my favorite team? To me, it is a strange joke. Sigh oh well.

Thanking Time.

28 07 2008

I’ve realised that blogging about religion is very difficult. I’ve decided not to do so any more. I’m tired of trying to voice out my opinions and having people tell me I’m wrong. So instead, this post is going to be about things I am thankful for and everyone should be thankful for.

  • I am thankful for being alive. My life as always been at risk since I was born.
  • I am thankful for my family. They have supported me and guided me through everything. There are people without families.
  • I am thankful for living in Singapore.
  • I am thankful for living in a multiracial and religious harmony country. There are people who live in discrimination.
  • I am thankful that I am not in a country or a community which is surrounded by violence. There are people who live in countries that are in war.
  • I am thankful that I have friends who do not judge me on my race or religion but my character. There are students still discriminated by race and religion.
  • I am thankful that I can see. There are many who are blind.
  • I am thankful that I can hear. There are many who are deaf.
  • I am thankful that I can talk. There are many who are mute.
  • I am thankful that I can walk. There are people who are in wheel chairs.
  • I am thankful that I go to school.  There are many children who can’t afford to get an education.
  • I am thankful that I can read. There are many who can’t.
  • I am thankful that I can write. There are people who do not know how.
  • I am thankful I live in a HDB flat ( apartment). They are many with out a roof over their head.
  • I am thankful that I have a comfy bed every night. There are many who sleep on the ground.
  • I am thankful that I am healthy as can be. There are many who are ill.
  • I am thankful that Singapore offers me a variety of food. There are many who are hungry.
  • I am thankful I live in a clean environment. There are many who live in dirty environments.
  • I am thankful that I can travel. There are people who can’t get visas or can’t afford to leave their country.
  • I am thankful that I can see the world. There are many who haven’t left their country.

Lastly, I am very thankful that I can share this with you.

Thank you for listening.

Did we exist yesterday?

27 07 2008

This is interesting. How do you know you existed yesterday? I think it is a pretty good question brought up by one of my teachers.  We had this class discussion on the matter. We kept voicing our arguments and my teacher kept rebutting.

How do you know you existed yesterday? You stayed up all night? Not very possible. I’m thinking about what my teacher. According to him, we wake up ever morning and we can’t confirm we existed yesterday.  Our memory of yesterday or of last month could be uploaded in to our brains( or something like that). It isn’t easy to explain. It’s like Sims. Starting a character from starch and the character doesn’t know he didn’t exist yesterday and we could be paused and played at any time. Strange concept, I know.

It was just a though. God could have a sims game loaded in his computer a long time ago and is controlling everything we do.

Random facts.

27 07 2008

I was feeling pretty random. So I searched the word ‘random’ on google. Here are some random facts and my opinion on them.

According to suicide statistics, Monday is the favored day for self-destruction. Everyone has got the Monday blues.:’(

It is believed that Shakespeare was 46 around the time that the King James Version of the Bible was written. In Psalms 46, the 46th word from the first word is shake and the 46th word from the last word is spear. Coincidence? I think not! *AHHH*

The most money ever paid for a cow in an auction was $1.3 million.  Who would pay that much for a cow???

There are 10 human body parts that are only 3 letters long (eye hip arm leg ear toe jaw rib lip gum). Who knew?

Elephants are the only mammals that can’t jump. If they could, you might feel the earth shake every time they did.

Size doesn’t matter.

27 07 2008

Today, I was watching my sister and the rest of the floorball team play against a team bigger and rougher than they are. I must admit, I was very impressed. These girls worked very hard and improved from their first match I watched. They fought out there today. They played at their best ( although there may be areas of improvement. I don’t know, I’m just a spectator).

I think they should have won. They fought very hard today. I feel that if they keep fighting for it, they will start wining some games.

Moral of today’s story? Think of it as David and Goliath. David was a small boy who defeated the Giant Goliath with a sling shot ( smart thinking). My sister’s team is like David and with some smart thinking, they throw down some big mean giants. This can be applied for real life and business too.

You have to start off small and work your way up. People may doubt you when you are a small company or business just setting up. Some can be very cruel and make bets on how long they think you will hold out. If you are passionate about your business, fight for it. Show them, prove to them that you can do it. They are only doubting you because they screwed up at their business. ( sorry, off topic).

Once your business is pretty stable, you have two choices.

One: you can continue having a small and stable business.

Two: you can take the risk and allow your business to grow.

If you pick two, you have to really do some smart thinking. Observe your competition. Study strategies of other successful and big business. Take up their strategies and improve on them. There will come times when you have fight with your competition. This is when you have to pull up your defence and offence at the same time. You want to defend your business but you still need it to grow and gain profit. This is where you need to observe your competition more closely. Watch their moves. There will be ways things can be prevented and moves you can make that will make more of an impact than the move your competition made.

Be careful though. You always need to be three steps ahead of your competition.

A surprise call

26 07 2008

Usually, when I get a call from a strange voice I have never heard before, I just put down the phone or say wrong number. However, once the guy starts asking for my dad, I am not so hesitant to slam the phone down. He was asking about me and my sister and I answered his questions. I asked who he was and he said her was Percy. I was like ‘OHHH. You’re Uncle D’s brother’. I knew who he was. Never met him tho. He lives in Canada and moved there before I was born. I grew up listening stories of the adventures he, my dad and Uncle D had ( back in the day). He says he might come down. That would be really interesting. He said he’ll call another time. I can’t wait.

Introducing a new writer.

26 07 2008

My friend recently started a blog and I got inspired by her first post.

Elliew93 wrote and interesting post ”Hi there! I’m here to talk about my favourite topic ever-writing. What is writing to me?”…. read more of this interesting post here.

She is a very good writer. I have a feeling I’ll refer to her posts very often. She has alot to say. I love her opinions of the world but she might not blog very often. This post, basically gives you an idea of who she really is. I would just like to add something to her post.

Everyone is a writer. You don’t have to publish a book to be a writer. You are a writer because you have a blog. When you post, you are adding on to a story, your story. You are the main character in your story. Readers learn alot about you through one post. The more post they read the more they learn. It is like unravelling a mystery wrapped in an enigma. You have to go through layer by layer until you reach the end.

Lol. Have fun people.
